Councillor McCann Meeting Report (July 18, 2017)
Parry Sound Area Industrial Park Board Meeting
On Thursday, July 13th, with Councillor Borneman, I attended the monthly board meeting of the Parry Sound Area Industrial Park Board. Financials for May and June of 2017 were received. Renewal of insurance was authorized and we are excited about high speed Internet coming soon in partnership with Vianet.
Park To Park Trail Association Meeting
Immediately following the Industrial Park Board Meeting, I headed to the Park to Park Trail Association meeting at the Foley Community Centre. There are many positive
notes to pass along. Staff and volunteers of Park to Park continue to receive favourable remarks and comments from ATV'ers regarding street access in the Town of Parry Sound. Trail pass sales continue to grow. This is the fourth consecutive year in which sales have increased! The "Try the Trail" event this past Mother's Day welcomed 100 users while last year's event brought in 40. Growth and popularity of our trail system is on the rise!
The 2017 ATV Rally for prostate cancer was also successful with just under 100 entries. Monies raised go to the trail system and to prostate cancer research. Participants provided positive feed back on the rally and on the trails. Events like these do raise awareness of our trail system. CFMOTO has proposed working with Park to Park through a corporate sponsorship program generating mutual benefit including equipment for Park to Park. This should be coming to fruition in the near future. Park to Park is in search of a new office location. We existed in the office with the Parry Sound Snowmobile District Association, in the former CN Station here in town, but as the building has been sold, we are looking for our own space.
The Sound Community Hub Soft Opening
On Friday, July 14th, I attended the soft opening of The Sound Community Hub, housed in the former Wm. Beatty School. Members of the Parry Sound Non Profit Housing Corporation escorted a group of individuals around the building. All but two apartment units are occupied. The group was able to view a bachelor apartment and a two-bedroom apartment, each still to be occupied. The units are very bright and modern. An official grand opening is coming up in August! The community hub will be home to several user groups. There is also a business office hub in which multiple organizations can share resources in addition to private offices.
