Councillor McCann Meeting Report (April 18, 2017)
Parry Sound Area Industrial Park Board Meeting
On Thursday, March 6th, I attended the monthly board meeting of the Parry Sound Area Industrial Park Board, with Councillors Borneman and Keith. Financials for January and February of this year were accepted. The Capital Budget for 2017 was reviewed. There was more talk of broadband service to hopefully come to the park in the not too far off future.
OMB - RBC/Oastler Park Plaza - Motion to Dismiss - Rezoning
On Wednesday, April 12, 2017 I attended the OMB (Ontario Municipal Board) hearing, chaired by Hugh Wilkins. There was a motion to dismiss the appeal filed by Jo Bossart, a Parry Sound resident, regarding Council's decision to a modify the Town's Official Plan to permit RBC to locate in the Oastler Park Plaza. Council also approved rezoning to facilitate this matter. The province must first sign off on the Town making a change to its Official Plan (OP). Mr. Bossart represented himself, while Scott Snider, represented the Town and Oastler Park Plaza. Mr. Snider suggested that even though there was no word from the province at this point, the Oastler Park Plaza and RBC people wanted to hit the ground running in order to vacate the Parry Sound Mall this fall when or its lease will expire. Mr. Wilkins is expected to render his decision in a few weeks.
Belvedere Heights Fund Raiser Project
I am excited to be involved with a new project in support of Belvedere Heights Home for the Aged and Long Term Care, Parry Sound. The Parry Sound Area Digital Showcase is currently under production and is expected to be released in June of this year! This will be a collaborative effort with local area photographers, retailers and volunteers.
