Councillor McCann Meeting Report (January 17, 2017)
Belvedere Heights Board Meeting
On Wednesday, December 21st along with Council Borneman, I attended the Belvedere Heights Monthly Board Meeting. We said goodbye to retiring CEO, Donna Dellio. Her last day was December 31st. Marsha Rivers has been shadowing Donna for a number of months and is now in the CEO's chair. Donna leaves Belvedere in very good shape. She was asked at the board meeting for any last thoughts and she spoke of the significance of good planning. This will be especially true knowing we face some tough funding challenges in the next few years.
Parry Sound Victory School Commemorative Project Update
Then later that day from 4:00 to 7:00PM, the Official Launch or Unveiling of the Victory School Commemorative Project was held, hosted at the West Parry Sound District Museum. A number of special guests addressed the gathering including Jim Marshall, Acting Deputy Mayor. Thank you Jim and to all those who took part and attended. As of yesterday, we are sold out of units. The project was dedicated in the memory of Harry E. Tate, a much loved and respected principal at Victory for 35 years from 1928 to 1963 when he then retired. There are 13 of his grandchildren all receiving a complimentary set and that means that this historical record of our town and area, certainly Victory School, is being sent out as far as Fort Simpson, NT, Alberta, Nova Scotia, Illinios, as well as Northern and Southern Ontario.
Mayor's Levee
On Sunday, January 8th I joined Councillors Borneman, Horne, and Keith at the Mayor's Levee. Congratulations to Dennis Miner on receiving the Order of Parry Sound. It is very well deserved. There was a great attendance.

Representing the Town of Parry Sound, I attended the 2nd Annual Gchi Dewin Indigenous Storytellers Festival at the Stockey Centre, Friday morning, January 13th. Deepest Condolences
I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere condolences to the McWhirter Family on the passing of Rita McWhirter. I’ve known her for several years and through the Victory Project got to know more about her life and times growing up in Parry Sound when she sat down for an interview. She was a Town Councillor, some years back. She loved her family very much and it showed, and was active in her church. She will be missed.
And also, my condolences to you Mr. Mayor and the McGarvey family on the passing of your younger brother Joe. From the service on Thursday of last week, it was most obvious he was well liked and will be missed.
