Councillor McCann Meeting Report (October 4, 2016)

The District of Parry Sound Municipal Association Meeting
With Acting Deputy Mayor Jim Marshall, I attended the Fall 2016, 159th Meeting, hosted by the Town of Parry Sound at the Stockey Centre, on Friday, September 30th.  Mr. Marshall welcomed everyone and perhaps without knowing it at the time, spawned a "Hockey Trivia Theme" as he talked about this area being the home of Bobby Orr and other famous NHL personal.  It was a time to speak about long term care as the administrator from Eastholme Home for the Aged brought us updates.  Belvedere Heights CEO, Donna Dellio, then spoke about the lack of a level playing field when it comes to funding Nurse Practitioners between Health Care and Long Term Care.

A presentation by Graham Proudley, a Client Relations Specialist with LAS, Local Authority Services (LAS) talked about some of the services offered to municipalities in an effort to save money and grow together.

A representative was on hand to speak on behalf of the Public Services Health & Safety Association.  Town of Huntsville Fire Chief, Stephen Hemen, talked about shared fire services.

Finally, the guest speaker was Deputy Ombudsman, Barbara Finlay, of Ombudsman Ontario, talking about Bill 8 Expansion of the Ombudsman’s jurisdiction to municipalities as of January 1st this year.

West Parry Sound Refugee Program
The West Parry Sound Refugee Program welcomed the first of two families here in Parry Sound arriving on Monday, September 26th. Then yesterday, October 3rd, there was an opportunity for local media to meet the family and get to know more about them.  Myself and several committee members were also in attendance.
