Councillor McCann Meeting Report (June 7, 2016)

Parry Sound Area Industrial Park Board Meeting
With Councillors Borneman and Keith, I attended the Parry Sound Area Industrial Park Board Meeting on May 19th.  A fairly straight-forward meeting.

Special Town Council Meeting at the Bobby Orr Community Centre
Then later that afternoon, along with Mayor and fellow Councillors, I too, attended the special Town Council Meeting at the Bobby Orr Community Centre.  It was an interesting exercise to identify and prioritize business development opportunities.  I am confident and feel very certain that we are going to see some exciting things in the next few years!

Belvedere Heights Home for the Aged
I attended the monthly board meeting of Belvedere Heights on Wednesday, May 25th at Belvedere.  We are in the process of hiring a Nurse Practitioner.  This individual will also be shared with Lakeland Long Term Care for certain hours per week.

The West Parry Sound Health Centre Municipal Meeting
With Mayor McGarvey and Councillor Keith, I attended the West Parry Sound Health Centre Municipal Meeting on Monday evening in the hospital board room.  Changes are coming.  "Patients First" is the theme, but it is believed that the Local Health Integrated Network could expand, take authority over more health care related services.

There was much concern around the table that administration is becoming top heavy and much too complicated.  The real money is needed on the front lines.  The hospital’s position is that it would like to work with the province and with LHIN and possibly receive favour as opposed to loosing everything.   It has been suggested, that maybe with an expansion to LHIN we could see more local representation in the network.
