Councillor McCann Meeting Report (January 19, 2016)
Belvedere Heights Long Term Care Board Meeting
On Wednesday, December 15th, I attended the Belvedere Heights Board Meeting, along with Councillor Saulnier. Belvedere successfully achieved the 3 Year CARF Accreditation valid to 2018 with a 99.7% compliance. Management and Staff are to be congratulated on a superior job of demonstrating performance! This is the proof and verification of all the good things Belvedere does for its residents.
Incidently, CARF Canada (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) is a selected accreditor in many fields including Aging Services, Behavioural Health, Employment and Community Services and much more!
DARE Graduation (St. Peter’s School)
Later that morning, December 15th) I attended D.A.R.E. Graduation Ceremonies at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Elementary School in Parry Sound. Along with Councillor Keith we were honoured as special guests having the privilege of watching these young students reap their reward in the form of recognition and individual certificates for their work in learning how to stand tall and not be afraid to be their own person, their own individual. This, meaning to avoid the kind of peer pressure that can so often lead kids down the wrong path. It was also an opportunity for us to speak, and I took the opportunity to encourage the kids to not let this message get away from them. As easy or as difficult as it is now, it can get tougher later on. Stand proud.
Park To Park Trail Association Annual General Meeting
On Thursday, January 7th, I attended the Park to Park Trail Association Annual General Meeting. This year it was hosted right here in Parry Sound. I want to thank April McNamara and staff at the Bobby Orr Community Centre for being so accommodating! As you heard this evening in their deputation, the association works hard and benefits from countless volunteers and volunteer hours to keep our trail system from Huntsville to Parry Sound open. The association does much in the way of marketing our area and improving on our brand visibility.

Parry Sound Town Council Budget Meeting
I was in attendance at the Town Council Budget Meeting on Tuesday, January 12th.
Parry Sound Area Industrial Park Board Meeting
On Thursday, January 14th, along with Councillor Keith, I attended the Parry Sound Area Industrial Park Board Meeting. We welcomed Councillor Sid Larson from Carling Township who has replaced Gord Harrison who stepped down from Council and took on the Fire Chief’s job. We wish him all the best. We are still exploring the potential for broadband Internet for the park and we are also excited to announce that through the Province’s Site Certification Program, the Helen Crawford Drive property is now Investment Ready. It has been certified and being marketed world wide.
Parry Sounders For Progressive Water Management
Finally, whether one is for or against water fluoridation, I want to congratulate and commend the Parry Sounders for Progressive Water Management on their initiative and dedication to follow through on their efforts. In their own time and expense, and in very cold weather members have been out canvassing, but not before months of meetings and preparations.
