Councillor McCann Meeting Report (May 17, 2016)
Parry Sound Public School DARE Graduation
Thursday, May 5th, along with Councillors Keith and Saulnier, I attended the DARE Graduation Ceremonies at Parry Sound Public School. this is a great program in which students are taught the skills and given the tools to resist drugs and alcohol, negative peer pressure, and also given the tools to stand on their own. The lessons and exercises are geared to helping kids make responsible decisions and appropriate judgement calls.
A special note of thanks goes out to Community Safety Officer, Provincial Constable Miles Loach of the OPP who has been heading up the DARE program over these years. This was his final DARE program. He approached this with a great love and dedication for and to the kids - he made a difference - he will be missed, and I KNOW he will miss them. He seems to be keeping it all in the family as his son-in-law will be taking over these particular duties!
Provincial Constable Kyle Ney is taking over as the new D.A.R.E officer. Constable Loach is retiring from the force late in the fall of this year.
On behalf of the students, families and the West Parry Sound Area, thank you Miles and congratulations!
Park to Park Trail Association
The Park-to-Park Trail Association board met last Thursday evening, May 12th in Sprucedate. I had a conflict and was not able to make it to this meeting however I can tell you that the meeting was filled mostly with housekeeping duties. There are some note-worthy items to mention. Park-to-Park is now offering a family pass for ATV's / SXS's / motorcycles! A second historic sign draft was presented. The first historic sign is located at the HWY 400 Trailhead. A parking issue at the Travel Centre was discussed. Finally, remember you can get your passes on line at parktoparktrail.org !
