Councillor McCann Meeting Report (February 17, 2026)
Congratulations to Parry Sound's Megan Oldham on Winning Gold and Bronze!
Congratulations is more than well in order to Parry Sound's Megan Oldham on winning Gold and Bronze. Just yesterday, Monday, February 16, 2026 she finished first in the women’s freestyle skiing big air competition at the 2026 Winter Olympics, earning her a gold medal. This is her second medal and a trip to the podium on the heels of winning bronze for her third place finish in the Freestyle Skiing. She has proven herself as a true athlete who is determined, disciplined and dedicated to her sport. After crashing on her second run of the slope style event, she contended with muscle and back pain. In an interview she described how she was able to get back into the right "head space" to increase her score, and that she certainly did, earning a bronze medal and the honour of stepping up to the podium where the medal was presented to her. She had also described how incredible it was to have her family with her on the occasion of her second trip to the Olympics. Her first was during COVID and a very different experience with no family there that time. She also talked about an incident in November in which she got lost in the air on a training run and landed on her feet but, in her words, “smoked my head really hard.” Over the course of four or five weeks she focused on recouping, physically and mentally. Congratulations as once again Parry Sound has been honoured on the world map thanks to Megan Oldham's athletic prowess earning gold and bronze.
Welcome Chuck's Roadhouse
On Sunday afternoon my wife and I dropped into the newly opened Chuck's Roadhouse, occupying the same location in which Tailwinds had operated. We enjoyed ourselves. They had just opened on Friday evening, February 13, 2026 and had a busy weekend. They had especially been busy with snowmobilers, a testament to the significance of snowmobiling as it relates to tourism in our area. Welcome to Parry Sound, Chuck's Roadhouse.
Note of Appreciation to Seanan Megyesi of Boston Pizza, Sponsors and Volunteers on new Synthetic Ice Rink
Congratulations to Seanan Megyesi owner of Boston Pizza, his sponsors and volunteers on the successful opening of a new synthetic ice rink, at the waterfront, 9 Bay Street, in the parking lot directly in front of the band shell. Many thanks to Seanan, his team and also to Town Staff for making this work. The rink opened yesterday, Monday, February 16, 2026, just in time for Family Day.
Snowfest 2026
Last but not least, many thanks go out to the Parks and Recreation Department, Public Works and dozens of volunteers who all came together to orchestrate a great Snowfest for 2026. As it has been said and proven countless times, our community is filled with team spirit, a willingness to volunteer and help out, and generous in contributing time and money towards so much in this town. We would be nowhere without such dedication, loyalty commitment! Thank you to everyone.
