Councillor McCann Meeting Report (April 7, 2026)

Condolences to the Family of Tom Lundy
I'd like to begin by offering sincere condolences to the family of Tom Lundy on his untimely passing on March 23, 2026, at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie.  Sympathies are extended to his friends, the people of Township of The Archipelago in which he served as Councillor for Ward 1 and to the endless number of boards and committees in which he was a member.  He was unstoppable dedicating much of his life to serving community.  He was also a dedicated Mason, a chartered member of Goodfellows Lodge No.748 in Parry Sound, Georgian North District. Tom was also a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Valley of Barrie for the past 25 years.  He joined Rameses Shriners 23 years ago.  What many in our area did not know was that Tom was a referee for 17 years with the Canadian Hockey Association at the highest levels of amateur hockey. After serving as a referee he held several leadership roles with the Ontario Hockey Association (OHL) and the Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) and in 1998 was elected to the Hockey Canada Board of Directors as Chair of Junior Council.  He leaves behind a huge legacy of community service and dedication.  He will be missed.  Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Congratulations to Obdam's Flowers On 50 Years of Service
Running a family business can be rewarding in many ways, but it can also be tough.  Running a family business for 50 years means its proprietors must know what they're doing and having done so is reason to celebrate.  Congratulations to Obdam’s Flowers having celebrated 50 years serving the people of this area.  Owner/operator Jennifer Obdam has been following in her parents' footsteps since she was a teenager.  Her late parents, Peter and Mary Obdam opened the business on March 26, 1976. Originally from Holland, both Peter and Mary immigrated to Canada in 1958. They met and were married seven months later in 1960.

Parry Sound Waterfront Advisory Committee Meeting
On Monday afternoon, March 30, 2026 I attended the Parry Sound Waterfront Advisory Committee Meeting here in Council Chambers. The main point of this meeting was to take another look at the now released Waterfront Master Plan and in our discussion the committee came up with a list of items it feels would be most practical to prioritize.  That list is to be forwarded to the master plan authors for consideration.

Parry Sound Town Council 2026 Operating Budget Meeting
On Tuesday evening, March 31, 2026 I attended the Parry Sound Town Council 2026 Operating Budget Meeting.  Thank you again to staff for all the work, effort and time required to complete the 2026 Operating Budget and of course prior to this the 2026 Capital Budget.

Condolences to the Family of Greg Hobson
Last but not least, I would also like to take this opportunity to pass along my personal condolences to the family of Greg (Gregory) Marlow Hobson who passed away on April 4, 2026.  He would have turned 70 this August.  Greg was the former owner of the Strand Twin Theatre.  While he was seriously ill, this came along very suddenly as a huge shock and we are deeply saddened.  To Karen, her children and to the extended McKowen and Hobson families, you have our most sincere, deepest sympathies at this very difficult time.  Our thoughts and our prayers are with you.  There is a memorial visitation in celebration of Greg’s life taking place this Saturday, April 11, 2026 at 11:00 am, at the Logan Funeral Home, Parry Sound.
