Councillor McCann Meeting Report (October 21, 2025)
Parry Sound Public Library Monthly Board Meeting
On Wednesday morning, October 8, 2025, I attended the Parry Sound Public Library Monthly Board Meeting in person at the library. Approving our 2026 budget was one of the main items on the agenda. We accepted the resignation of one of the board members, Jonathan Baxter, who represented the Town of Parry Sound and welcomed his replacement, Sharon Ranney. We received the Treasurer's Report for the month of August. There was some brief discussion moving forward on our Building Assessment and Asset Management plans. The Board is looking to install a gate at the top of the stairs that lead down to the bottom floor fire escape. It is an exist from the library's auditorium. That area has been problematic with risk and safety concerns over unwanted activity in the stairwell. The gate can only be opened from within the enclosure in the event of an emergency. The Board has been entertaining a quote from a local business, however more information about the structure is required and staff is following up on this. There are plenty of upcoming programs for the fall and winter seasons at the library. They include the chess club, art journaling, yoga, book club, knit & stitch group and a special workshop on Scams & Frauds presentation with Ontario Securities Commission. This Saturday afternoon, October 25, 2025, from 3:00 to 5:00, the library is hosting the "Haunted House". Remember to check out the library's website for complete information on all programs.
