Councillor McCann Meeting Report (January 21, 2025)

The Mayor's Levee
On Sunday afternoon, January 5, 2025, my wife and I attended the Annual Mayor’s Levee at the Stockey Centre.  It was great to see such a turnout, and a wonderful opportunity for the public to get an update on the progress of our town throughout 2024 and what we can look forward to in 2025.  Congratulations to Jodi Contin on being awarded The Order of Parry Sound. It’s always interesting and enlightening to observe this annual ceremony. We get to learn about the busy and interesting, involved lives of our recipients.  Jodi is no exception as we learned of her dedication, commitment and contribution to her community and our area.


Parry Sound Public Library Board Meeting
On Wednesday morning, January 13, 2025, I attended the Parry Sound Public Library Board Meeting. Tom Lundy was reelected Chair and Susan Murphy, reelected Vice Chair.  The Board wishes to thank Parry Sound Town Council for entertaining the library's deputation made here on December 17, 2024 as presented by Selena Martens, CEO and Rola Fraser, Manager, Collections and Community Engagement.



Happy New Year
I would take this opportunity to wish Mayor, fellow Councillors, staff and public a very happy and healthy New Year!  On my website, DougMcCann.ca my Christmas and New Year’s blog/message titled can be found, “Is Technology Taking the 'Human' Out of Our Existence?"  It speaks to making the effort to humanly reach out to our neighbour, our fellow man and to take the time, day by day, to seek out an opportunity to personally, directly and sincerely, uplift an individual’s day. While it costs so little time and often no money, your heart will feel great for hours! Extend a compliment, show gratitude, empathy, perhaps patience or forgiveness if necessary, open a door, run an errand, volunteer, let someone with fewer purchases get in front of you, let a driver merge into your lane, surprise someone or fellow workers with coffee and donuts.  Make a food bank donation. It’s the best kind of medicine for your heart and soul.  On behalf of my wife Josey, and myself, we wish you the very best for 2025!
