Parry Sound Public Library Monthly Board Meeting
On Wednesday morning, June 11, 2025 I attended the Parry Sound Public Library Monthly Board Meeting held at the library. Our 2024 audit was presented by BDO and was later accepted and approved by the board.  The Treasurer's Report for the month of April, 2025 was reviewed and approved by the Board. There was more discussion on construction over the downstairs auditorium building exit and stairwell to prevent loitering unwelcome occurrences and undesirable behaviour in that location.  The library has a number of summer programs coming up.  Check out the website at https://www.parrysoundlibrary.com.

North Star Editions From 1874 to 1878 Returned To The Parry Sound Public Library
The Parry Sound Public Library Staff and Board of Management were delighted and pleasantly surprised at the return of North Star Editions from 1874 to 1878 as they were delivered to the library.  The unknown donor simply stated these belonged in the public realm.  And that is exactly what is planned for the editions.  The very first edition dated, Tuesday, October 6, 1874 and all the other editions will be handed over to the West Parry Sound District Museum for digitizing and professional storage ensuring proper preservation.  There were actually four folios containing the copies and more than 140 years!!  In those early editions it's not likely there were a lot of local reporters on the streets and the papers were mainly comprised of news from around the world and advertisements from local businesses, like tours in the Waubuno ship or lumber companies.  Considering the number of years, the editions are in rather good condition.

Waterfront Advisory Committee Meeting
On Monday afternoon, June 16, 2025, I attended the Waterfront Advisory Committee Meeting held in Council Chambers. There was discussion over the upcoming Waterfront Master Plan Open House, scheduled for Wednesday evening, June 25, 2025, from 6:00 to 7:30. Held at the Charles W. Stockey Centre, the public is invited to attend this final public review of the final draft.  However public input is still encouraged.  The Waterfront Advisory Committee also discussed future use and ideas in and around the Seguin River Parkette, now that M.V. Chippewa is no longer there.  The Committee also heard that we could expect a final report on the outcome of theWaubuno Bridge this summer.  There was brief discussion on signage and advertising at the Town Docks, with more on that in the coming months and there was an update on the Town Dock Repairs provided.

West Parry Sound District Museum Annual General Meeting (AGM) & "Lights of the Bay" Official Exhibit Opening
Finally, a reminder that the West Parry Sound District Museum Annual General Meeting (AGM) is coming up next week, Thursday afternoon, June 8, 2025 at 5:00.  The public is invited to attend.  This will immediately be followed by the official exhibit opening, titled "Lights of the Bay".  Again, the public is cordially invited to see the unveiling. Running through to October this year, "Lights of the Bay" dives into the changing methods and technologies used when navigating the waters of Georgian Bay.  It highlights the history of the lighthouses that light up the shoals and shores of the Parry Sound District and which guide travellers to safety.  It's interesting to make note of the fact that this exhibition was prompted by a collaborative project with the Township of the Archipelago to temporarily store artifacts from the Pointe Au Baril lighthouse while it undergoes renovations.  Check out the Museum's website at https://www.museumontowerhill.com.
