Ontario Trillium Foundation Acknowledgement and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at the Bobby Orr Community Centre
On Friday morning, 10:00, September 8, 2023, I attended the Ontario Trillium Foundation Acknowledgement and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at the Bobby Orr Community Centre. The $240,000 Community Building Fund Capital Stream grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) was used to purchase and install seven new HVAC units at the Bobby Orr Community Centre. This important equipment upgrade was completed in August this year and will provide improved air quality throughout the facility for years to come. On hand were James King, representing our M.P.P. Graydon Smith, Patricia Arney with the Ontario Trillium Foundation, Mayor, Jamie McGarvey and not in the photo, April McNamara, Manager of Parks & Recreation, Town of Parry Sound, who made opening welcoming remarks and introductions.
Parry Sound Public Library Monthly Board Meeting
On Wednesday morning, September 13, 2023 I attended the Parry Sound Public Library Monthly Board meeting, in person at the library. Treasurer’s Reports for June, July and August were received and approved. Our 2022 Audit had a small amendment and the report was approved as amended. There was a review of some of our policies regarding Bylaws and Governance. A deputation by April Denman of the DBA and Frank Camenzuli brought the board up to date on the spring Maple Syrup Festival planned for next year. An agreement with the Town of Parry Sound and library regarding Wi-Fi access was ratified. Our CEO report included 2nd quarter statistics and there was a review of programming offered by the library.
The library had a great, successful summer. Cayla Norrie, Manager of Programming, Marketing and Data Analysis organized a wide of variety of children’s and family programs bringing in packed attendance numbers. On the topic of programs, a series of Family Game Nights begins September 21st. Folks must register in advance by calling Robert (705) 746-3164. There is a Kids' Chess Tournament, September 23rd for all skills from kindergarten to grade 12. A series of Art Nights with Rola starts September 28th, and Kids' Tech Club on October 21st.

The Library is expanding our children’s STEM resources (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) thanks to a donation from the Parry Sound Rotary Club. This donation goes towards the Parry Sound Public Library Kids’ Portal.
