Councillor McCann Meeting Report (June 6, 2023)
West Parry Sound District Museum Monthly Board Meeting
On Thursday evening, May 25, 2023, at 7:00 I attended the West Parry Sound District Museum Monthly Board Meeting which was held in person at the Museum. It was great to come to the table and see everyone. We have been dealing with a peculiar issue in that third party content provided for our website, for the benefit of that party used a photo which breached a copyright and ended up costing the museum some time and possibly money. We have been negotiating with the licence holder, but this should be a warning to be extremely careful in using photo content that it is most likely copy written by someone. It could come back to haunt the organization in a financial manner.
We are also reviewing our by-laws in order to meet new rules by the Ontario Not-for-Profit Corporations Act (ONCA) in affect by October of 2024. Our Accession Plan and Policy is also under review to ensure they are up to date and meet museum standards. This will require a review of several other policies and this action is due by the end of June. Our financial reports were received. The Museum’s emergency lighting pack requires replacement to the tune of over $5,600. The board approved a motion to go ahead with the replacement.
Waterfront Advisory Committee Meeting
On Monday afternoon, May 29, 2023, at 5:15, along with Councillor Keith, I attended the Waterfront Advisory Committee Meeting here in Chambers. We talked with Mike Kearns of Public Works regarding upkeep of the Town Dock Gazebo. We received an update on Beautification of the Downtown from the BIA and we talked about security during the arrival of the cruise ships.
