Councillor McCann Meeting Report (July 18, 2023)
Congratulations to John Beaucage on his Appointment to The Order of Canada
While I have no meetings on which to report over the last few weeks, I am glad that Councillor Borneman brought to our attention this evening, the news that John Beaucage has been greatly honoured with his Appointment to The Order of Canada. I too would like to congratulate Mr. Beaucage on this most prestigious recognition. John is a great example of the kind of people who put Parry Sound on the national and international map! His appointment to the Order of Canada is well deserved! The Order of Canada honours people who make extraordinary contributions to the country. John has been recognized “for his exemplary leadership and commitment to advancing the well-being and prosperity of Indigenous communities in Canada.”, as stated in a news release from Anishinabek News. It goes on to describe John as a leader, a builder of bridges and genuinely kind person who is constantly working to create a better country for every member of our shared society. As we know here in the Parry Sound area, John Beaucage has served as Chief of Wasauksing First Nation. He has also served as Grand Council Chief of the Anishinabek Nation (Union of Ontario Indians) and Ontario’s first Indigenous Advisor to the Minister of Children and Youth Services. John has served on various boards which are mandated to work for a better community and world.
The Charles W. Stockey Centre and Bobby Orr Hall of Fame 20th Anniversary
Congratulations to The Charles W. Stockey Centre and Bobby Orr Hall of Fame on its 20th Anniversary this month! Congratulations to the staff, the people of the area and to those who had the vision for this magnificent complex which has and will continue to serve the West Parry Sound District. The grand opening was held on July 18, 2003 with a number of VIPs, dignitaries, public officials, and a huge gathering of people who came for the opening and ribbon cutting ceremonies.
