Councillor McCann Meeting Report (April 21, 2015)
On Wednesday evening, April 8, 2015, I attended the Trails Master Plan Public Input Meeting, at the Charles W. Stockey Centre. It was well attended. Some 40 people from diverse user groups including walkers, hikers, cyclists, snowmobile and ATV riders were all in attendance. John McMullen, a consultant on the Trails Master Plan for Parry Sound conducted the meeting. Town Planner Taylor Elgie welcomed those in attendance and introduced Mr. McMullen.
People formed into various groups to make several suggestions regarding route connectivity, issues and problems were identified as well as potential risk factors. This public input will be absorbed by the committee to help plan and direct a vital and vibrant trail system to be enjoyed by all citizens and visitors here in Parry Sound.
On Thursday, April 9, 2015 I attended the Regular Monthly Board Meeting of the Parry Sound Area Industrial Park Board Committee. Although the winter season may be more quiet than the spring and summer seasons, the Industrial Park is doing well in various capacities including its financial snapshot. The park is home to several industrial businesses employing some 100 people in the area. There are always interesting prospects as potential tenants approach our administration looking for information on locating within the Park. For more information on the Industrial Park, please visit our web site at http://parrysoundindustrialpark.com.
On Friday, April 10, 2015 I attended the unveiling of the Town of Parry Sound's new web site. Congratulations are in order for the entire web site team on going above and beyond the call of duty. The new web site achieves many objectives including AODA compliance! The design which is responsive to various user platforms, everything from a desk top to a smart phone or iPad is completely up to date from all technical standards. The look and feel, navigation, colour and content are top notch. I know Parry Sound we will be the envy of other towns AND cities who will have some catching up to do in this area. The domain name, parrysound.ca is also more appropriate and less cumbersome. Thank you to Dan DiNicolo and his web site team on this huge venture!
And I would like to extend a note of congratulations to Trevor and Sarah Pinn on the safe arrival of their baby boy, Leland Jeffrey, born April 16th. Trevor and Sarah's first born, Easton, turning two, seemed pretty happy with his responsibility of being a new big brother!! I had the pleasure of running into all of them this past weekend. It was wonderful to see the baby although he was fast asleep at the time. Best wishes to the Pinn family!
